Bereavement support group to meet Feb. 6

The bereavement support group "Meet and Eat" will meet Thursday February 6, 2014 at noon at the Pizza Ranch in Vinton.  Anyone greiving a loss is welcome.  For information phone Frieda at 472-5348.

Relay for Life set for June 13 in Van Horne

Cancer knows no time. That's why cancer fighters will walk around the track in the battle against this disease on June 13 during the 2014 American Cancer Society Relay For Life of Benton County at the Benton Community Track, Van Horne. The Relay For Life of Benton County Committee members will hold the Kick Off Rally at 6:30 p.m., Tuesday, Feb.

Fifth annual VS Vikettes basketball Pink Night set for Monday

The fifth annual Vinton-Shellsburg high school girls basketball Pink Night will take place Monday, Feb. 3, at the VSHS gym. The event will honor area breast cancer survivors and help raise funds for the Gifts of Hope mammography fund. It was in 2010 that Vikette Coach Deb Schirm worked with others in the school and the community to invite breast cancer survivors to a special fund-raising event during a high school girls basketball game.

Glow Skate night Saturday

The Vinton Parks & Recreation Department wants to invite you to join us out at the Vinton Skate & Activity Center on Saturday, February 1 for our annual Glow Skate Night. Attendees will receive a cool glow necklace and the opportunity to play some fun glow-themed games. The cost of admission is only $4.50 (includes skate rental) and there will be a number of glow items on sale.

'Real Treasure' to be theme of After 5 event, Feb. 11

This month, the After 5 Club will host as their speaker Kathy Ivec from Plainfield Ill. She will be speaking about the "Shopper at heart finds REAL treasure."   Music will be furnished by the Schmidt family. Second registration for baseball/softball set for Feb. 2

A second Registration day for the Vinton Softball and Baseball league will take place Sunday, February 2nd from 1:30 pm - 2:00 pm in the Middle School Gym Sign-up is open to all grades for softball, all 7U and 8U baseball players and 9U-13U players who tried out in the fall and were placed on a USSSA team.   Any questions, please email vintonsbcorp@hotmail.

Blessed Hope to hold service to honor retiring pastor February 9th

Blessed Hope Church of Vinton, would like to extend an invitation to the public to attend a special service in honor of our retiring pastor Rev. Jim Blair and his wife Karen. The service will be held in their honor on Sunday, February 9th at the church beginning at 9:30 a.m. Rev. Blair has served the Blessed Hope congregation as pastor since December 11, 2005.
